What is Nexplanon?
Nexplanon is a hormonal birth control implant about the size of a matchstick. It’s placed just under the skin of your upper arm and provides up to 3 years of pregnancy prevention by steadily releasing a progestin hormone (etonogestrel).

Nexplanon Insertion & Removal Procedure
Insertion
- In-office procedure takes ~10 minutes
- Local anesthetic is applied to the upper arm
- Implant is inserted with a specialized applicator
- Bandage applied — no stitches required
Removal
- Takes about 10–15 minutes
- Local anesthesia used again
- Small incision is made to gently remove the implant
- A new implant can be placed immediately if desired
