Annual Physicals Help You Understand Your Health
Make Your Yearly Visit More Meaningful
Feeling healthy does not always mean that every health risk is visible.
High blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, diabetes, and other conditions may develop without obvious symptoms. An annual physical provides an opportunity to review your health, identify concerns, and discuss preventive care with a primary care provider.
Z‑2‑H Family Med & Urgent Care Clinic® offers annual physical examinations at participating clinic locations.
What Is an Annual Physical?
An annual physical is a routine primary-care visit focused on your overall health. It allows your provider to update your medical history and evaluate changes since your previous appointment.
The visit may include a review of:
-
Current health concerns
-
Medical and surgical history
-
Medications and supplements
-
Allergies
-
Family health history
-
Blood pressure, heart rate, and weight
-
Nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and stress
-
Tobacco, alcohol, or substance use
-
Recommended screenings
-
Appropriate laboratory testing
The examination and recommendations depend on your age, sex, medical history, symptoms, and individual risk factors.

Is an Annual Physical the Same as a Sick Visit?
Not always. A preventive physical focuses on overall health and recommended screening. A problem-focused visit evaluates a specific symptom, illness, or condition.
If you have several new symptoms or complex medical concerns, your provider may recommend a separate appointment so each issue can receive appropriate attention.
Insurance plans may also process preventive and problem-focused services differently. Ask your plan how additional concerns, procedures, or testing could affect coverage.
How Should You Prepare?
Bring your insurance card, photo identification, medication and supplement list, allergy information, and relevant medical records.
If you monitor blood pressure or blood sugar at home, bring your recent readings. Write down any changes in sleep, energy, weight, mood, appetite, menstrual cycles, bowel habits, urination, or physical activity.
You may also want to ask:
-
Which screenings are appropriate for my age?
-
Do I need laboratory testing?
-
Are my medications still appropriate?
-
What health risks should I focus on?
-
When should I return for follow-up?
Are Annual Physicals Covered by Insurance?
Many health plans include preventive benefits, but coverage depends on the plan, provider network, diagnosis, and services performed.
Before the appointment, confirm that the Z‑2‑H location and provider are in network. Ask whether the physical is covered, whether your deductible applies, and whether laboratory testing is processed separately.
A covered annual examination does not guarantee that every laboratory test, procedure, medication, or additional problem-focused service is covered without patient responsibility.
